This is what I am aiming to teach in three posts or less.
Translation: Good morning! I am Gabriel. It's summer vacation. I left for France.
Starting off with what was already taught, WE can say simple phrases with time, statements, and simple questions.
So how about saying phrases with actual verbs? That is what I am aiming to teach in this post and the future posts.
Today I will start off with the first definition of verbs.
There are three types of verbs: -ru verbs, -u verbs, and then irregular verbs.
The difference between the verbs is how they end. Here is a list on some verbs to start off with:
| 〜る | 〜う | Irregular Verbs |
| おきる (to get up) | いく(to go) | べんきょうする (to study) |
| たべる (to eat) | かえる (to return) | する (to do) |
| ねる (to sleep) | きく (to listen; to hear) | くる (to come (destination, use に,へ) |
| みる (to see) | のむ (to drink) |
So these are called forms. The forms listed here are called dictionary forms. They are rarely ever seen in spoken にほんご because they are solely to be used when searching for the verbs in the dictionary. The spoken and written forms that I know of are present and past (both negative and positive).
Let's get cracking!
Today I will go over how to conjugate in the present form.
〜う verbs are very simple: All that is done is take the last syllable and shift it to the 〜い form and then add ます at the end to show it is positive present.
Example:
いく (to go) - く + き + ます = いきます (going)
Used in a sentence: わたし は フランス で いきます。
*Whenever you use a verb, you will not use です to end the sentence as the verb is ending the statement
〜る verbs are similar in what we do with 〜う verbs except a minor change. The thing we change is take out the 〜る and add ます.
Example:
たべる (to eat) - る + ます = たべます (eating)
Irregular verbs are similar in who to take the root.
They are the exceptions as their dictionary forms look the same to 〜る verbs. They are only exceptions.
What needs to happen is this:
take the る out and change the last syllable to the 〜い form of the verb and add ます
Example:
べんきょうする - る - す + し + ます = べんきょうします (studying)
So this concludes how to find the root of the verbs in the three categories and conjugate them into the present affirmitive.
Now for the present negative.
All you have to do is take the present affirmative and replace ます with ません like so:
いきます - ます + ません = いきません
There is a nother post being prepared on how to use verbs in sentences but for now I'll leave with a base on sentence forming with verbs. Till next time!
